Clayton High School
History Alive Program
#2
Mark Twain Circle, Clayton, MO 63105
Hello,
We would like to thank you in advance
for your participation in the first annual History Alive Veterans Program. The purpose of this letter is to share some
specifics about what you can expect and help prepare you for a fulfilling
experience at Clayton. More information, including a video of a previous event,
can be found on our blog at http://www.historyalivelhs.blogspot.com/.
The program will be held in the Stuber Gymnasium, which is is the entrance between the Clayton Center and main high school entrance. The Stuber Gym entrance has three large greyhounds astride on the the wall to the right of the entrance. There will be parking designated for veterans around
the front entrance. Please refer to the map printed on the back of this letter
for specific directions.
Upon arrival, each person will be given a
table to settle in and spread out any items brought from home. Volunteers are
encouraged to bring old photos, letters, medals, uniforms, newspaper clipping,
and maps to help complement discussions (a seat cushion may be useful too, no
weapons please). Classes will participate in 47 minute increments, which means
each volunteer will ideally talk with groups of 2-5 students for about 20
minutes before we rotate for another 20 minute discussion. There will be a
brief break while classes shuffle in and out and the process will begin again
with a new group of students.
We are so excited to be creating
meaningful conversations between generations and appreciate your role in not
only serving our country, but also breathing life back into our study of
history. It is important to model the need to learn from our elders and that
cannot be done without you volunteering your time. If there are any questions
please feel free to contact Brad Durnell at (314) 489-9326 or via email at bradleydurnell@claytonschools.net.
Sincerely,
Bradley A. Durnell
